The Manager of Outreach plays a pivotal role in establishing, maintaining and expanding outreach services utilizing library resources, including multiple mobile library vehicles and an extensive outreach materials collection. Outreach programs and services are offered at venues throughout the community including childcare and senior living facilities, migrant camps, special events and festivals. Ideal candidates will be forward-thinking, enthusiastic, and community-minded with the organizational skills to manage County-wide mobile outreach operations.

The successful candidate will be a self-starter and skilled communicator who enthusiastically embraces public library service and demonstrates a positive attitude, flexibility, good judgment, and a commitment to teamwork. This position directly supervises 3 full-time employees and coordinates staff across the library system who assist with outreach.

The Lee County Library System has 14 branches featuring over 2 million items available for patrons to use or check out, and circulates more than 4.75 million items per year. Currently more than 250,000 Lee County residents are registered users.

This position reports to, and works collaboratively with, the Manager of Programming and Community Outreach to ensure the library system is responsive to population growth and underserved communities. The expected hiring salary range for this position is $60,000.00 to $65,000.00 per year. 



  • Supervise outreach staff and coordinate workflow and scheduling for effective service delivery.
  • Coordinate, plan and present programs and activities for all ages at outreach locations and special events.
  • Create relationships with community partner organizations to benefit the residents of Lee County.
  • Identify and work to resolve issues related to vehicle maintenance and logistics.
  • Oversee collection maintenance and promotion of the outreach collections through selection and weeding.
  • Interact effectively and tactfully with staff and other Lee County agencies and community groups.
  • Relate positively to a diverse population, communicate effectively both orally and in writing, and assist the public directly as an active member of the public service team at the library system.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and stay abreast of emerging trends.
  • Use considerable independent judgment and problem-solving skills along with established policies and procedures to ensure a competent staff and consistent, high-quality service to the public.




  • Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate library school program accredited by the American Library Association and two years of progressively responsible experience as a professional librarian, or closely related experience. 
  • Prefer a Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate library school program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Prefer three years related library experience.
  • Prefer two years supervisory experience.
  • Prefer two years customer service experience. 
  • Experience with planning and presenting library programs is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record is required.



  • Spanish speaking is preferred.
  • Prior community outreach and/or bookmobile experience preferred.
  • Ability to analyze the needs of the community and to plan, develop and conduct appropriate programs for targeted groups is essential.
  • Exceptional communication skills are crucial.
  • Demonstrated leadership or management experience and the ability to work independently is critical.
  • Ability to engage community partners in the promotion of library programs and services.
  • Ability to relate positively to a diverse population, including children, teens, and speakers of languages other than English.
  • Competent in the use of office equipment and ability to learn and adopt new and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to operate a variety of vehicles for County use, including vans of various sizes.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and carry objects up to 35 lbs.
  • The County may require employees to make either a temporary, or long-term, permanent transfer to another library location to accommodate the organization's business needs.
  • This position requires 80 hours bi-weekly; hours and days will vary to include evenings, Saturdays and some Sundays and holidays.
