Description:

The duPont-Ball Library seeks a sabbatical replacement librarian for August 1, 2022 – December 9, 2022, 21 hours per week.  The part-time Research Librarian is responsible, through the application of established policies and procedures, for providing effective reference and research services, and for creating and maintaining online research guides. Work hours are typically Monday through Wednesday, 9 am to 5 pm, when classes are in session, but also, on occasion, mutually agreed upon on-call shifts at other times. Excellent opportunity for a new MLS/MLIS graduate, or a librarian seeking academic library experience.

NOTE: Work hours can be adjusted from those listed above. Monday through Friday hours are availalbe. Possible evening hours Monday through Thursday until 10 pm are also an option for this position.

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Answers questions and assists with research in person, by telephone, text, and email
  • Assists library users in the use of print and online resources and in locating material
  • Creates and updates online subject, topic, and course guides for general research and library help
  • Creates and updates online information literacy and library use tutorials, handouts, and guides
  • Responds to routine problems library users may encounter with computers, printers, copiers, and micro-format machines when information desk staff cannot respond adequately to the user
  • Maintains currency regarding reference, research, and database sources
  • Assists research staff with collection maintenance and collection development projects such as weeding, evaluating, and recommending materials for purchase
  • Retrieves materials from special (locked) collections such as the University Archives, Treasure Collection, Stetson Collection, etc.
  • Performs other position specific functions as assigned.

 


Education:

Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • The candidate must hold the MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution
  • Experience providing reference and research service in an academic library preferred
  • Experience using Springshare’s LibGuides and other LibApps is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal direct supervision
