Description:

Librarians are a pivotal part of the library customer experience and as such, conduct the library's strategic plan initiatives and annual goals and objectives. Librarians create, implement and market programs and services for the public, develop effective community working relationships, provide literacy support through collection development and connect the customer with the information they seek. To accomplish this, they are proficient in organizing materials and information, communicating and working with others, and are able to analyze review sources, public input and statistical data to best serve the community. In addition, they have advanced knowledge and skill in using, troubleshooting, and training on computer hardware and software applications.

They are leaders among library and city staff reporting to and communicating with the Library Administrative team. They are directly supervised by the Library Services Manager, the Assistant Library Director or Library Director. Regularly scheduled night and weekend work is expected.

Education:

COMMUNITY SERVICES LIBRARIAN

  • Administrator for Career Online High School (COHS), recruit, market, and act as liaison for students

  • Coordinator for ELL program, schedule tutor training, match students with tutors

  • Conducts interviews in Spanish for prospective students

  • Collaborates with Pinellas County Schools to provide Adult ELL instruction

  • Oversees various ELL programs including English Conversation Club, Citizenship and Naturalization Preparation classes

  • Compiles ELL and COHS statistics, use evaluation tools and surveys to determine impact, and report results

  • Creates and distributes marketing materials, press releases, social media posts and posters for ELL, COHS, Welcome Week and all other outreach related services

  • Partners with non-profits, businesses, and other organizations to broaden customer base

  • Analyzes statistical information, usage, and demographics to determine goals

  • Responsible for daily, weekly, and monthly reports

 

Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association accredited institution  and one (1) year full-time professional library experience

  • Valid Driver's License

COMMUNITY SERVICES LIBRARIAN

  • English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)/English Language Learning (ELL) experience preferred
