Description:

Under limited direction, the Lead Librarian performs professional-level library management services, program development, collection acquisition, resource allocation, customer service, and staff supervision. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions: -- Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Assigns, coordinates, oversees, and directs the work of professional and para-professional staff members rendering interactive programming and instruction; offers unique services to the public and surrounding community. • Develops and implements short- and long-term goals, objective, policies, procedures, and work standards for the library; creates and executes targeted public relations and marketing campaigns that will attract new patrons to library services. • Oversees, supervises, manages, trains, evaluates, and assigns the work of staff to meet goals and support the Strategic Plan; resolves conflict, delegates volunteer work, and ensures daily duties are completed; resolves personnel conflicts and evaluates performance. • Leads in establishing programs and services that publicize and promote the use of the library collections and resources through exhibits and outreach activities; performs tours, presentations, public events, and outreach sessions for all ages. • Oversees the development and implementation of innovative technologies and customer tools; establishes materials budget, selects vendors, and determines purchase order amounts. • Assists with the implementation of ongoing library services, programs, marketing, and distribution of information; develops special programming, activities, special events and other services to serve the community. • Provides year end statistics, pulls collection reports for inventory or wedding, assists with collection management projects, and maintains a strong knowledge of all library systems, coding, and new interfaces. • Provides professional project management and oversight for various events within the Library; coordinates, organizes, manages, and oversees various projects and events. • Attends and contributes to various meetings, seminars, conferences, and committees; represents the library on outside committees; serves as Manager in Charge when needed. • Performs other duties as assigned.


Education:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment: A valid State driver's license is required. Education and Experience: Master's Degree in Library Science, Library & Information Sciences, or a related field and four (4) years of experience in full-time professional-level public school or college library work, two (2) of which must be in a supervisory role, OR a Ph.D. in Library Science and two years of experience in full-time professional-level public school or college library work.; OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION: Knowledge of – • Principles of library management including cataloguing and integrated library systems • Public library systems, services, and programs • Communications, trends, social media, marketing, and technology • Computer skills including design programs and spreadsheets • Library policies and procedures. • Research techniques, sources, and availability of information • MARC computer language coding and cataloguing conventions • Reporting methods and data delivery • Project management • Personnel and volunteer supervision and management • Customer service principles Skill in – • Developing, implementing, and monitoring contemporary library programs and services • Creating and implementing policies, procedures, and goals • Cataloguing and referencing all library materials • Establishing and maintaining strong and professional relationships • Coordinating and organizing library programs and services • Analyzing and compiling data regarding program success • Personnel Management and exceptional customer service • Operating a computer, related software, and various library systems • Conflict resolution
