About Our Job

 

This is a professional librarian position responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and implementing the day-to-day digital literacy strategies for Sarasota County Libraries and Historical Resources (LHR). This includes user experience, training, developing digital content for external and internal customers, and the planning, overseeing and coordinating the system-wide Creation Stations (makerspaces).

 

Job Description:

Creation Stations (Makerspaces)

  • Provide leadership and input in the coordination of system-wide Creation Station policies and procedures.
  • Develop, conduct and provide related Creation Station programs for patrons of all ages.
  • Develop and train staff and patrons on relevant equipment.
  • Represent LHR outside of the library at community events.
  • Make recommendations for new or replacement equipment or services.
  • Facilitate the purchase of new equipment and services and track expenses related to Creation Station equipment and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot a variety of Creation Station equipment and software.

 

Digital Platforms

  • Responsible for the design and function of LHR digital training platforms.
  • Plan, generate and manage digital content, coordinate efforts of others in content development, network with other libraries, professionals and community groups for technology, input, and awareness of needs and trends.
  • Assist with the development of LHR digital content, including graphics and copy editing; ensuring it is current, consistent with established style guides and functions properly. 
  • Help to plan for future enhancements to LHR’s digital presence by staying current with software and processes to enhance the user experience. Report back to the team with opportunities and proposals to improve LHR’s digital presence.
  • Responds to user questions and troubleshooting library-related apps and platforms.

 

Customer Service and Analytics

  • Support and facilitate frontline staff with the instruction of digital literacy skills to the community.
  • Create monthly analytics reports, translating anecdotal and qualitative data into recommendations.
  • Continuously assess user interfaces and user experience.

 

Work Hours: 

Schedule will be 40 hours/week

  • Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. with evenings and weekends as needed.

Education:

About You

Minimum Qualifications:  A Master's Degree in Library Science (MLS) from a college/university accredited by the American Library Association with experience in a public library including library supervisory experience preferred OR A Bachelor’s Degree and enrolled in an MLS/MLIS program with the ability to obtain an MLS/MLIS within six (6) months from date of hire.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  One year of experience in a library environment preferred.

 

Job Competencies:  Self-starter with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely. Knowledge of modern library principles with emphasis on digital, technology, and user experience for all ages. Knowledge of practices, theories, procedures, technology and public library operations.  Knowledge of materials, reading tastes, and publishers.  Knowledge of laws and regulations governing access to information in library.  Ability to provide high level customer service.  Ability to effectively collaborate/partner with internal and external organizations/services.  Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment and handle a variety of customer services issues tactfully. Ability to work effectively in teams, and to train, develop and guide other team members.  Ability to educate and instruct internal/external customers.  Ability to prioritize, manage, organize, and present work/information effectively.  Knowledge in team facilitation, conflict resolution, and team dynamics. Ability to plan and implement new systems and instruct others in their use.  Knowledge of office equipment, computers and software.

 

 

Subject to Passing Substance Screening:  This position is subject to passing a pre-employment substance screening.  An applicant who fails to pass a required drug screening test shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of five (5) years.
