This is responsible professional and managerial work for the Alachua County Library District's marketing and public relations division.
An employee assigned to this classification is responsible for responding to inquiries and questions from the media and the public and for providing information to citizens and Library District employees, utilizing written and telephone communications, press releases and other audio-visual techniques. Work is performed under the general direction of a higher-level supervisor and is reviewed through conferences, reports, and observation of results obtained. |
Examples of Duties: |
Supervises and coordinates the activities of subordinate employees including determining work procedures and preparing work schedules; issuing written and oral instructions; assigning duties and reviewing work for exactness, neatness, and conformance with the marketing and public relations division and Alachua County Library District policies and procedures.
Prepares and conducts employee performance reviews.Recommends personnel actions such as new hires, promotions, transfers, and disciplinary procedures including warnings, suspensions, and procedures. Prepares and conducts work related training for subordinate employees. Meets regularly with members of the press to establish and maintain clear and effective lines of communication with the media.
Assists citizens with their requests for access to public information; meets individually or in groups; responds to telephone requests and requests in writing. Informs District staff members and citizens of important topics via memoranda e-mail, public radio, television broadcast, etc. Serves as the official spokesperson for the Library District. Responsible for coordinating the response to all public records requests. Develops new and creative ways to communicate the Library District's message to the public. Provides print, digital graphic design, editing and copy writing services to Library District staff. Supervises staff in the creation, design and production of print and graphic design projects promoting the Library District and its various services and programs. Coordinates the creation and submission of various print materials for awards and grant funds. Assists with research, and prepares reports, on legislative issues of significance to citizens and Library officials. Develops materials to assist with the legislative effort at the state and national level. Provides direction and supervision to subordinate employees in the development and production of Library District branding and marketing materials. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Thorough knowledge of the issues and events occurring in the Library District. Thorough knowledge of the workings of the media. Thorough knowledge of branding and marketing practices and principles. Considerable knowledge of design and production of print materials used to promote and market Library services and programs. Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of organizational administration and management, budgeting and human resource management. Skill in dealing with the staff, citizens and the media on sensitive issues. Skill in developing and producing creative and effective promotional materials for the Library District. Ability to respond appropriately to questions from the media and citizens. Ability to determine appropriate person to respond to questions as necessary. Ability to remain calm and professional in stressful situations. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to prepare and present concise, clear responses and press releases. Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate projects and programs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the media, elected officials and District employees. Ability to deal tactfully and respectfully with citizen complaints. Ability to effectively supervise and coordinate the activities of subordinate employees.
