The Maitland Public Library is looking for a dynamic and engaging person to work with children and young adults. The Library offers multiple weekly story times with songs, dances, letter recognition, books, crafts, and puppets, as well as book clubs, cooking demonstrations, Summer Reading, and special events loved by the community, including the Storybook Tea Party and Winter Wonderland. We're seeking someone with new ideas, team spirit, and a willingness to experiment to find the right programs and services for this child-friendly community.
The Youth Services Librarian is responsible for leadership and management of the planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation of a comprehensive program of library services for children from birth through teen years, as well as parents and caregivers; evaluates and manages youth resources, services, community partnerships, and teen volunteers; provides expert professional advice and guidance on youth services to achieve the Library’s goals and objectives.
The Maitland Public Library endorses to the philosophy that every child in Maitland is entitled to free, readily accessible, and specialized programs of library services. This position will introduce children to literature and literacy, encourage an appreciation of reading, and develop capable users of information and technology.
The Youth Services Librarian provides information services and user support for all library users, serving at the Reference Desk regularly. Some evenings and weekends are required to provide youth programming or otherwise meet the needs of the Library.
