Working at the City’s Downtown Public Library, performs a variety of specialized work in theyouth services area,
while assisting guests who visit our Library.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Entry level professional work in a variety of phases of library operations. Assists patrons in the use of print materials, equipment and technologies, offers basic technical assistance, troubleshoots computer problems, assists in navigating the Internet, locates databases in order to help patrons use library resources. Locates materials, answers questions, requests materials through ILL, and refers patrons to outside resources and collections when appropriate in order to provide information services to patrons. Maintains current awareness and use of emerging information and library technologies. Promotes library collections and services through presentations, programs and displays. Maintains statistical information on collections and services. Responsible for advanced assignments within the operation of the library. Develops and implements library programming and outreach for children and teens. Designs and presents storytimes and book talks in the library and in outreach locations, including schools, daycare centers, parks and recreation centers and other agencies. Leads, trains and supports staff. Helps implement library goals, policies and procedures. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Knowledge of principles and practices of public library functions. Knowledge of reference tools and procedures. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers and the general public. Ability to communicate effectively with library patrons and fellow employees.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Completion of two years of college and two years of library experience. Bachelor’s degree is preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be directly related to the foregoing specific requirements may be substituted.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Absence of non-prescribed controlled substances in the applicant’s system as verified by a laboratory approved by the City of Winter Haven.
