Description:

Located on the campus of New College of Florida, the Jane Bancroft Cook Library is a shared service of New College of Florida and the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee. We are searching for a collaborative, creative and innovative person to serve as an Instructional Design Librarian (12-month, full-time, non-tenured, promotion-earning faculty). Reporting to the Dean of the Library, this librarian will serve on a collaborative team to develop, promote and deliver research instruction in online (LMS and other online learning platforms), blended/hybrid and in-person environments.

This librarian will design and deliver curriculum-aligned and pedagogically sound Information Literacy learning experiences and will create digital learning objects (tutorials, videos, graphics, etc.) that not only focus on research best practices and Framework-aligned outcomes, but also provide transferable research skills that support student engagement and success.

The successful candidate will work with faculty colleagues to design and deliver Information Literacy instruction that ranges from single-shot lessons to fully-embedded, semester-long librarian course collaborations. They will also work to sustain and expand library partnerships with students, staff and faculty across the campus.

The Instructional Design Librarian will participate in collection development in assigned areas, liaising with assigned subjects, providing leadership to initiate, plan, oversee, manage and conduct a variety of programs, events and activities to promote the library’s mission of the discovery, creation and preservation of knowledge.

This position will also liaise and provide outreach to local high schools to introduce students to college research skills, library environments and working with librarians. This position may supervise staff and students as required and perform other duties/functions as requested.

Responsibilities of the position evolve as the library environment continues to change. All librarians are expected to make contributions to the profession, provide service to the campus and broader professional community (i.e. statewide/regional/local committees) and embrace innovation and change. In collaboration with other librarians and staff, the Instructional Design Librarian will participate in long-range planning and development and assessment of programs, resources, services and policies.

Additional Information:

This position requires a background investigation to include fingerprinting. Physical demands include moving books and other items in the library and around campus.

Librarians at New College are non-tenure earning faculty. This position will be appointed at the assistant or associate rank depending on experience and qualifications.

Education:

Information Literacy Instruction:

  • Demonstrated experience teaching Information Literacy instruction both in-person and in hybrid/online learning environments (Canvas or other LMS)
  • Experience providing individual research/reference support both in-person and online
  • Demonstrated ability to create tutorials, videos, learning objects for distance learning, classroom supplementation and flipped classroom pedagogy using UDL, WCAG 2.0 and other inclusive/equitable frameworks/guidelines

Instructional Design/Technical skills:

  • Demonstrated experience/expertise with relevant academic and instructional design technologies, including but not limited to: video capture and editing software (e.g., Camtasia, iMovie), e-learning authoring tools, content creation and design in Canvas or an equivalent LMS
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of instructional design principles, models, theories
  • Working knowledge of current and emerging issues, practices, trends and technologies that support teaching and learning in an academic library and/or university environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Academic library experience
  • Professional classroom and/or online teaching experience
  • Two years professional experience in an educational environment
  • Graduate-level coursework/certification/advanced degree in instructional design/instructional technology
  • Experience with outreach and event programming in an academic library setting
