Description:

ILLUSTRATIVE TASKS

Authenticate and appraise historical documents and archival materials. 

Appraise the materials, determine preservation and conservation issues, and determine best practice for resolving issues. Complete organization, preservation, and description of the collection.

Create and maintain accessible, retrievable computer archives and databases, incorporating current advances in electric information storage technology.

Direct activities of workers who assist in arranging, cataloguing, exhibiting and maintaining collections of valuable materials.

Locate new materials and direct their acquisition and display.

Organize archival records and develop classification systems to facilitate access to archival materials. 

Prepare archival records, such as document descriptions, to allow easy access to information.

Preserve records, documents, and objects, copying records to film, videotape, audiotape, disk, or computer formats as necessary.

Research and record the origins and historical significance of archival materials.

Select and edit documents for publication and display, applying knowledge of subject, literary expression, and presentation techniques.

Coordinate educational and public outreach programs, such as tours, workshops, lectures, and classes.

Facilitate acquisition, preservation, arrangement, description, and access to born-digital materials.

Assist staff, researchers, and interns interested in accessing the Archives

Maintain and update archival database

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of archival and preservation concepts and techniques.

Knowledge of research methodology and skill in providing research assistance.

Knowledge of basic computer skills and web application software. 

Skill to develop storage systems for public use.

Skill in searching and maintaining electronic databases and electronic document management tools.

Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.

Ability to effectively communicate and work in a team environment.

 


Education:

Bachelor's degree in History, Art History, English, Library Science, Archival Science, or related field. Certificate in Archives from accredited institution or a minimum of one year archiving experience.
