The Miami-Dade Public Library System is hiring for a Librarian 2 in the Cataloging section of its Collection Development Department. This position will report to the Librarian 3 (Cataloging Manager) and assist in the accurate and timely maintenance and creation of bibliographic and authority records. The job site is at the Main Library Branch in Downtown Miami, but this position will be helping with cataloging work for all 50 branches of the Miami-Dade Public Library System.
-Original and complex copy cataloging in multiple languages and formats
-Loading vendor records into the Library’s ILS and performing quality control on those records
-Creating and maintaining import profiles in the Library’s ILS
-Performing all aspects of authority control, including updates, proposals, and the creation of original records
-Assisting the cataloging manager with bibliographic maintenance and recommending strategies for new bibliographic maintenance projects
-The correct interpretation and use of Library of Congress Subject Headings, Dewey Decimal Classification, AACR2, RDA, and the OCLC Bibliographic Formats and Standards
-Development and recommendation of cataloging policies and procedures based on best practices and current standards as well as remaining informed of current and emerging initiatives in cataloging
Eduation: Master's Degree in Library Science or a related program from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited graduate school.
Minimum Qualifications: One year of professional experience as a librarian is required.
-A working knowledge of OCLC Connexion, MarcEdit, MARC21, and Polaris Integrated Library System, or other comparable integrated library systems
-Experience using and interpreting both AACR2 and RDA standards as part of daily cataloging work
-Experience using Microsoft Excel for data transformation, keeping statistics, and other work-related tasks
