Information Commons /Research Specialist is a full time, twelve-month position.  The primary responsibility is to curate the Information Commons resources.  Other responsibilities include providing exceptional information literacy, technology and curricular support for students and faculty.  Daily tasks revolve around providing students and faculty access to the Information Commons resources and delivering training and classes in the ethical, effective use of information and technology.  Coordinates with the Educational Technology Integration and Innovation Center Specialists to assure that all students receive instruction in the areas of information literacy, technology integration, and design.  


  • Oversee daily operations of the Information Commons including shelving books and supervising common areas
  • Plan and deliver educational information literacy classes to students with primary responsibility for grades five through twelve and secondary responsibility for pre-Kindergarten through fourth grade 
  • Administer circulation and curation of Information Commons print resources 
  • Provide students and faculty with instruction in use of Information Commons resources
  • Collaborate directly with faculty to enhance their curriculum and the experience of their students through the mindful use of information resources
  • Oversee cataloging of print resources and annual inventory of all Information Commons assets
  • Provide training for students and faculty on use of Information Commons equipment and research databases 
  • Support special functions and events held in the Information Commons
  • Troubleshoot equipment and systems access issues for students and faculty
  • Organize and administer special interest student groups 
  • Maintain inventory of Information Commons supplies
  • Assist with data integration between student information systems and third-party vendors
  • Assist as needed with Information Commons Help Hub desk
  • Assist with the cataloging and management of all Information Commons equipment
  • Attend grade level and department meetings as needed for curriculum planning and delivery
  • Organize and direct Information Commons student and parent volunteers
  • Adhere to the AASL Standards Framework and ISTE Educator Standards, infusing the principles of continuous learning, leadership, digital citizenship and collaboration in all aspects of Information Commons programs
  • Participate in all meetings and duties as expected of Faculty and Staff
  • Adhere to the faculty and staff handbook

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Education, Computer Science, or related field
  • Master’s level degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited university
  • Knowledge and familiarity with library technology standards and protocol
  • Demonstrated interest in working with children from early childhood through teenagers valuing diversity and the accomplishments of different learners and the whole child
  • Project management experience
  • Experience with online library catalog systems or inventory systems


  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong commitment to client service and support
  • Capable of learning and training others on a variety of computer applications and operations
  • Ability to troubleshoot a variety of equipment
  • Capacity to train non-technical staff on school hardware and software
  • A good sense of humor, enthusiasm, and a strong work ethic
  • Work in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and constituencies
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize work
  • Ability to work independently and with colleagues in a team environment
  • Proficient in basic office administration, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Tools
  • Ability to take directions from more than one person



  • Work in a sometimes highly active environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Mobility to arrange and organize equipment and furniture
  • May work at a desk and computer or stand for extended periods of time
  • Be able to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally
  • Work primarily in a traditional climate controlled office environment and may also work in varied and extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat
