Present programming to youth patrons (infant to 17 years) and parents/caregivers. Assist Librarian in program creation and coordination. Aid in the selection of materials for the youth collections. Assist patrons of all ages with library services including reader advisory, patron access computers, printing, and eLibrary resources. Support the front desk, circulation, reference, or other library areas/functions as assigned.
Ability to communicate confidently, articulately, and professionally verbally and in writing. Ability to multitask. Ability to use common software applications (i.e. Microsoft Office Suite). Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to count change and handle money. Ability to place items in correct order (alphabetical, numerical, etc.). Ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Ability to work with and troubleshoot office machines (i.e. copier, fax machine, scanner, etc.). Ability to apply library policies and procedures. Ability to work as part of a team. Ability to work independently on assigned tasks.
Bachelor's degree with training emphasis in library science or allied field supplemented by 1 to 3 years; previous experience and/or training involving library work, or any equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform essential job functions.
About the Lighthouse Point Library
In 1965, the Lighthouse Point Library started in a tiny donated storefront with an all-volunteer staff and just 500 books. Today, thanks to community support, grants, and contributions the City of Lighthouse Point Library boast a beautiful 8,000 square foot facility with over 40,000 materials (print and digital), a full-time staff of three, part-time staff of two, and a volunteer pool of over 100. In the last fiscal year the library was open 2,520 hours, circulated over 40,000 materials, welcomed 6,547 participants to its 515 programs, won the Florida Library Association award for Special Projects (Friends) and trained with Eric Carle for the 50th Anniversary of the Very Hungry Caterpillar (S.T.E.A.M.).
