Position Details

The Macdonald-Kelce Library at The University of Tampa has a position available for a Part-Time Library Technical Assistant who will provide coverage during the week and Sundays. Primary responsibilities are providing customer service at the Circulation desk, supervising students, assisting patrons and guests, and performing opening and closing duties. This position also assumes responsibility of the building when a supervisor is not on duty. This position reports to the Circulation Manager.

Responsibilities

1. Provide circulation service to library users, assist with instruction regarding the use of databases, catalogs and computer applications, and check materials in and out while providing a positive customer experience.
2. Supervise and train student assistants.
3. Instruct and assist patrons with library equipment (e.g., scanners, computers, printers, microfilm readers, etc.).
4. Participate in collection inventory projects and shelving to enhance the quality of service for library users.
5. Answer directional questions and refer library users to appropriate personnel to ensure that the need of the patrons is met.
6. Assist with Library opening and closing duties.
7. Other duties as assigned.
8. Contribute to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures and backgrounds.

Education/Qualifications:

Work Schedule

Hours during academic year: Sunday, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Monday through Wednesday, 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., and Friday, 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Part-time schedule not to exceed 29 hours per week/1000 hours per year

Qualifications

1. A high school diploma.
2. Ability to work evenings and weekends as designated by the department.
3. One (1) year experience in a library setting preferred.
4. Familiarity with basic computer operations.
5. Previous supervisory experience a plus.
6. Effective communication and organizational skills.
7. Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn The University of Tampa software programs such as Workday and Microsoft Office.

8. Willingness to embrace new technologies and innovative organizational practices.
