Plans, supervises and coordinates the work activities of a large library branch. Interprets/explains library policies and procedures to the public and staff; resolves member complaints/issues; prepares branch budget recommendations; monitors expenditures; oversees and approves adult/children/teen classes, events and activities. Trains and directs professional/other Library System personnel; issues counseling forms/disciplinary actions; handles employee complaints/grievances; recommends the hiring, promotion and termination of staff; performs related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s Degree in Library Science accredited by the American Library Association (ALA); minimum of three (3) years of professional library experience that includes two (2) years of supervisory work.
Equivalencies:
1. Bachelor’s Degree AND five (5) years of directly related public library experience that includes two (2) years of supervisory work
2. Associate’s Degree AND seven (7) years of directly related public library experience that includes two (2) years of supervisory work
3. Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification AND nine (9) years of directly related public library experience that includes two (2) years of supervisory work.
PREFERENCE FOR EXPERIENCE: Managing a major department/branch of a public library; training/supervising personnel for more than three (3) years; handling/resolving facilities/building issues; conducting oral presentations/speaking in public. Also desirable: Bilingual (English/Spanish/Creole).
