Under general direction of the Literacy Education & Outreach Manager and/or Library Branch Manager, the person in this position is responsible for technical and supervisory work exercising considerable discretion and judgment in performing advanced library tasks approaching professional level. Plan and perform creative, age-appropriate programs. Work is performed in various library functions such as circulation, and general reference for children, parents and other library patrons. Maintains and organizes library materials according to established procedures, assists internal and external customers.
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee may be required to perform emergency duties as directed.

Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
Conduct reference interviews.
Assist patrons in identifying reference needs.
Compiles books lists and bibliographies, enhances collection, reviews books and other materials in the areas of subject matter expertise.
Assist in collection development.
Participates in community activities, including creating, planning and implementing quality community outreach programs.
Creatively develops, coordinates, and presents theme-based and age-appropriate educational programs to youth of all ages.
Selects, prepares, and circulates books for childcare centers in Martin County.
Promote and communicate library programs, computer classes, and services.
Posses knowledge of Reader’s advisory.
Conducts research using print and electronic resources.
Assist customers with use of electronic and print resources.
Assists customers with reference questions by using electronic and print resources.
Orients researchers to the layout of the collection.
Refer research level reference questions to professional staff.
Assist with training and orientation of new staff.
Assist in maintaining orderly reference materials and resources.
Reconcile customer account.
Maintains working knowledge of automated circulation system, electronic resources, and print resources.
Branch assignments: Provide the full range of circulation services.
Bachelor's degree with major course work in English, Social Science, Computer Science, Humanities or related field plus core library courses or possession of an LTA (Library Technical Assistant A.S. degree)
Substantial knowledge of the community.
One year working experience in required area of responsibility.
A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications; library experience may substitute for degree on a year- for- year basis.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License
