Lee County Library System, a dynamic, forward-thinking organization, is offering enthusiastic, community-minded candidates the opportunity to become a part of the team at the North Fort Myers Public Library. As a Reference Librarian, you will work primarily with adults but have daily interaction with and provide library services to children and teens. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who enthusiastically embraces public library service and demonstrates a positive attitude, good judgment, and a commitment to teamwork.
North Fort Myers Library was rebuilt in August 2019 with a new 25,000-square-foot facility serving North Fort Myers and surrounding communities. The North Fort Myers Library shares a campus with the North Fort Myers Recreation Center and is located between two large communities; Suncoast Estates and Paloma Park as well as various active living communities.
The successful candidate will be responsible for directly supervising one Reference Library Associate. The candidate will be responsible for the adult monthly outreach services for the North Fort Myers Library. These services include being the primary staff for the deposit collection and Community Conversations outreach at Bayside Senior Living. The deposit collection service provides a collection of “Read & Return” regular and large print books to senior residential and daycare/facilities/programs.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide stellar customer service by assisting patrons of all ages using Library resources and services, including computers, electronic resources, references, and readers’ advisory.
Maintain a regular schedule of collection maintenance and promotion of the adult’s collection through weeding, selection, and displays.
Demonstrate proficiency in readers’ advisory to adults.
May be assigned to participate in branch-specific and system-wide committees.
Present tours and programs for school and community groups visiting the library.
Provide technology training to staff and patrons
May be in charge of the library for specific days or shifts.
Explain and administer library policies and procedures
Actively seek and participate in professional development opportunities and stay abreast of emerging technology and trends.
Communicate effectively and tactfully with co-workers, sharing information and working cohesively as a team.
Plan and present programs and activities for adults at the library and at outreach locations.
May supervise paraprofessional personnel.
Develop and maintain communication and contacts with nearby active living communities and community organizations that serve adult and senior patrons.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in Library or Information Science from a graduate library school program accredited by the American Library Association or the ability to obtain this degree within 6 months of hire.
One year of library or closely related experience.
Possession of a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
