The Jacksonville Public Library is actively seeking a Community Engagement and Events Manager.

This position reports to the Assistant Director for Learning Services and is responsible for developing, strengthening and sustaining partnerships that collaboratively impact the community by supporting the mission and work of the Jacksonville Public Library (Library).

  • Seven years of education and/or experience in libraries, project management, non-profit management, or related fields.

Experience, Abilities and Qualities Required:

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills. The ideal person for this job would be professionally mature: have the ability to solve problems and work with minimal supervision, have good judgment as well as being personable, professional, patient, have a take charge attitude, multitask, and have the ability to come up with fresh ideas.
  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and handle difficult situations with both staff and the public required.
  • Strong problem prevention and problem-solving skills – focus on mitigating risk to prevent problems and then having agility to quickly find solutions to problems when they arise.
  • Ability to accommodate varied work assignments and schedules. Provide leadership and direction with the ability to prioritize and plan ahead.
  • Ability to communicate (written and verbal) skillfully and effectively with a culturally diverse staff, volunteers and community in a professional, pleasant, respectful, courteous and tactful manner at all times.


  • A valid driver's license may be required and must be maintained during employment in this class.
  • Must qualify for prior to appointment, obtain, and maintain during employment a City of Jacksonville Public Driver Certification.
