SCHEDULE
40 HOURS PER WEEK INCLUDING NIGHT, WEEKENDS, AND HOLIDAYS AS NEEDED.

GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:

Performs difficult professional work supervising a major service center in the Boca Raton Public Library (BRPL).
Responsible for the effective administration, operation, budgeting, training, and evaluation of a major service center in the BRPL.
Supervises professional personnel, paraprofessional personnel, and volunteers.
Supervised by the Technology & Digital Services Librarian III.

TYPICAL FUNCTIONS:

Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises the public library’s Instructional Services programs and services offerings to the Public, to City employees, and to the library staff;
Maintains excellent relations with the Public by handling escalated customer complaints, customer feedback and customer suggestions in a professional manner;
Maintains excellent relations with the Instructional Services staff, BRPL leadership team, the Recreation Services Department, other City Departments, and BRPL stakeholders through regular communication, meetings and reporting;
Oversees the hiring, orientation, training, supervision, scheduling, professional development, and regular evaluation of all Instructional Services professional personnel, paraprofessional personnel; oversees the selection, orientation, training, supervision and scheduling of Instructional Services volunteer or intern personnel;
Evaluates, recommends, implements, and monitors technology or tools for the Public or for library staff which support Instructional Services, including computer labs, under the direction of the Technology & Digital Services Librarian III;
Supervises and participates in the development, preparation and presentation of library programs, classes, events, and projects relevant to Instructional Services, with focus on information literacy and access, employment skill development, financial literacy, and self-learning opportunities for adults;
Develops classes and trains the Public and library staff in research, technology, library system software, workplace software, online applications, or distance learning, under the direction of the Technology & Digital Services Librarian III;
Researches, evaluates and compiles bibliographies, online content, and other reference and subject material, as assigned;
Works with the marketing team to advertise tools, classes or programs relevant to Instructional Services programs and classes;
Serves as needed as a member of the library leadership team to determine and implement library policy, procedures, and programs related to Instructional Services;
Collects, analyzes and reports Instructional Services statistics;
Assists in analyzing, preparing and administering budgets in assigned areas.
Enforces the Rules of Conduct, library policies, and procedures and maintains order at the libraries.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Ability to plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the work of professional, paraprofessional, and/or clerical staff and volunteers.
Ability to research and analyze administrative library problems, and to make recommendations for their solution.
Ability to interpret library policies and objectives to community groups and the public.
Ability to maintain administrative and fiscal records, prepare reports, and collect and report statistics.
Considerable knowledge of professional library principles, practices, methods, and techniques.
Considerable knowledge of the relevant literature, methods, trends, and developments in the field of library services.
Ability to express ideas effectively, both orally and in writing.
Advanced skill in the use of a computers and software applications.
Ability to work independently or as a part of a team, and to organize and lead projects.
Ability to serve the public and interact with fellow employees professionally, with integrity and equality.
Ability to act as Building Administrator in Charge, Librarian III, or Library Manager, as requested.

Education/Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Master's Degree in library and/or information science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association required; minimum of three (3) years' experience working in public or academic libraries and two (2) years supervisory experience. Instructional experience preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid State of Florida driver's license with no more than six (6) points within the last (3) year period.
Essential employee during declared storm emergency.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Must be able to see, stand, walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, bend, and reach.
Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds and push a loaded book cart weighing up to 200 pounds.
Must be able to tolerate exposure to dust.
