Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is 'Florida Library Jobs'?
A: Florida Library Jobs is the official listing of job openings for library staff positions in Florida. It also includes a resume posting service for persons with a Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program who are seeking positions in Florida's libraries. This service is free to all users. However, all library job positions that are posted must be located in the State of Florida. Resumes may be submitted by anyone with a Master's degree from an ALA-approved program. Submitted resumes are viewable only by library employers who have registered through Florida Library Jobs.

NEW! FLorida Library Jobs has introduced a new service to assist libraries in recruiting staff. As many library positions do not require a graduate degree from an ALA-accredited program, Florida Library Jobs has created a new Web site designed to recruit qualified staff from other fields. The new site is called ‘Jobs in Florida Libraries’. Library employers who use the Florida Library Jobs site to post their job positions have the convenience of using the same administrative login to post jobs to both sites. Job openings are automatically sent to one of the respective sites by simply indicating on the online job posting form whether or not a degree from an ALA-approved graduate program is required. All jobs that require a degree from an ALA-approved graduate program will be automatically sent to the original Florida Library Jobs site. Jobs that do not require this degree will be automatically sent to the new ‘Jobs in Florida Libraries’ site. Hyperlinks to the new 'Jobs in Florida Libraries' site are provided on the original 'Florida Library Jobs' Web site.

Florida Library Jobs has been funded under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, from the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the Florida Department of State, State Library and Archives of Florida and is operated by SEFLIN (Southeast Florida Library Information Network).

Q: What do I do when I see the small red 'X' in the 'Job Description' and other text input boxes when I am attempting to post a job or resume?
A:

The problem is that your Web browser will not allow the job or résumé posting page to run the WYSIWYG editing functions for those parts of the page that have the small red "X". This is a common problem with Internet Explorer version 7 and higher. Microsoft put this in their Internet Exporer browser as a safeguard, but it also disables safe and needed functions too. Microsoft made these changes to their Web browser and did not design it so users could easily see that an action on their part is needed.

When you go to the job posting or résumé form, look in the upper part of the browser window, between the browser controls and the web page itself and you should see a thin, pale yellow bar or stripe running across the length of the browser window. You need to click on this yellow bar and give the browser permission to run the functions that are on the Florida Library Jobs web page. This will resolve the red X-mark problem.
