Description:

Responsibilities: Manages the expenditures and financial reporting for the Law Library collection budget to purchase legal materials; Establishes and maintains effective relationships with book vendors and electronic service providers; Handles collection development, selection and acquisition of library resources, including requests made by faculty, students, administration, and staff; Collaborates with other librarians in the selection and evaluation of library resources; Performs acquisitions financial processes using University accounting system including entering invoices to create requisitions and purchase orders, tracking budget and purchase orders, and receiving purchase orders; Advises law library director in accordance with library standards and practices on acquisitions and collection development; Monitors material budget and apprises Law Library Director of library budget needs and answers questions and assists director upon request; and performs other duties required or deemed appropriate to the functions of the department.


Education:

Minimum Requirements:   Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited school and a JD from an ABA accredited law school and experience working in an academic law library, online legal and legal research methodology. Preference will be given to applicants with two (2) years or more library acquisitions experience.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products with emphasis on Word and Excel;
  • Knowledge of bookkeeping, negotiating and budgeting;
  • Knowledge of integrated library system such as Aleph;
  • Knowledge of electronic resources and ability to work in a digital environment;
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing with faculty, students and staff;
  • Ability to demonstrate strong organizational skills and ability to perform very detailed work with a great deal of accuracy, must be able to respond to a rapidly changing professional environment;
  • Ability to be flexible, self-motivated and work independently and as a team player; and
  • Ability to negotiate with vendors, read and understand license agreements.
