If so, Florida State University Libraries may have just the position for you. The Director of Service Strategies oversees a 24 hour, 5 day a week high-energy operation, across multiple locations and platforms, including virtual chat reference and distance services. The Director, based in the Learning Commons, will oversee a department handling over 2 million transactions every year, encompassing circulation, reserves, reference, technology support, tutoring, virtual reference, outreach programs and library instruction. In addition to administering service points in Strozier Library (FSU’s main library), Dirac Science Library and the FAMU-FSU Engineering library, the Director works collaboratively with Technology and Digital Scholarship, Special Collections, and Collection Development to create a seamless service environment throughout the Libraries.
The Director will evaluate physical and digital services to develop consistent service standards, policies and procedures. Understanding the art and science of designing and delivering high quality library services is key to success in this role. A strong focus and analytical mindset supports data-driven decision making, balanced with a passion for delivering consistently high quality services.

The position reports to the Associate Dean for Research and Learning Services and is part of the RLS Leadership team. The position guides the activities of 5 librarians and 14 staff.
Provide leadership and management of circulation, reserves, reference, instruction, technology support, user experience and outreach, and adaptive technology.
Hire and train departmental staff In coordination with administration and colleagues
Develop departmental policies and procedures that establish and maintain high standards
Explore and implement new ways to capture data that enables effective assessment and evaluation of programs and services.
Serve on library, campus, and consortial committees as appropriate.
Contribute to state, regional and national professional organizations; participate in research, publication, and other professional and scholarly activities.
Master’s degree in library and information science or other relevant graduate degree
Minimum of four years relevant professional experience in a library or similar setting
Commitment to and experience in evaluating and assessing programs, services, and users’ needs
Successful supervisory and personnel management experience
Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate and implement effective services, programs, and complex projects
Solid grasp of issues, trends and technologies impacting higher education and libraries
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to work independently and as a team member in a changing environment
Ability to meet the Libraries’ requirements for scholarship, service, and leadership
