Embry-Riddle’s Hunt Library is currently accepting applications for the position of night-time Access Services Technician. This position supervises the Sunday through Thursday night time hours of the Hunt Library’s Access Services Department including responsibility for building security at closing time, train and supervise student assistants, prepare and transmit billing to bursar’s office, prepare media equipment for delivery to classrooms and patron pick-up, participate in departmental meetings.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the library as a whole in the late evening and early morning hours as the only library staff person on duty.
  • Close and secure the building at 12:00 am. 
  • Train, supervise, and evaluate 2-4 student assistants every semester.
  • Assist patrons with checking library materials in and out, photocopier questions, directional questions, and other customer service duties.
  • Explain and demonstrate proper use of library media equipment to patrons, check out equipment using proper protocols.
  • Communicate library policies and procedures to all patrons.
  • Explain overdue fines and fees and any other billing issues.
  • Explain and enforce the library’s code of conduct.
  • Complete Building Liaison training with the university’s Safety Department.
  • Responsible for implementing the library’s emergency plans during emergency situations or drills.
  • Assist in maintaining the workflow of the department.
  • Collaborate with other Access Services Technicians to complete tasks as needed.
  • Participate in departmental, library, and university-wide meetings, training, and events as schedule permits.
  • Participate on library-wide committees and with strategic planning as schedule permits.

Work Schedule


Sunday – Thursday, 3:30 p.m. – 12:30 a.m. (requires schedule adjustments for final exam periods and summer schedules)



  • Experience in front-line, public-facing service, preferably in a library environment
  • Excellent customer service skills and attitude
  • Ability to work independently after initial training and exercise judgment when applying rules and procedures
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain and implement policies and procedures
  • Supervisory experience
  • Good time management skills
  • Experience handling security issues
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office
  • High school diploma or equivalent and two years library-related experience required
  • Some college preferred
