  • ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Understanding academic library operations;
    • Performing library public services duties;
    • Providing excellent public services,
    • Utilizing library management systems;
    • Collecting and reporting statistics.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

    • Associate’s Degree in Library Technical Assisting or other higher educational training;
    • Minimum of three (3) years of academic library experience with library management systems;
    • Experience in library operations in circulation and technical services;
    • Experience in online proprietary databases, library 2.0 tools, and public services;
    • Ability to work as a functioning member of a team;
    • Exceptional customer service skills;
    • Time management and organizational skills;
    • Excellent interpersonal skills;
    • Excellent communication skills – both verbal and written;
    • Accurate and detail-oriented work performance;
    • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision;
    • Self-motivation, and a proven knowledge of Microsoft Office and Windows based computer applications to include word processing and Excel;
    • Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations.

     

    SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Opening and closing the library on a rotating basis with other library employees;
    • Collecting and preparing daily, monthly, and annual statistical reports;
    • Checking in and maintaining an organized periodicals section;
    • Utilizing the library management system for associated library functions;
    • Sharing public services responsibilities;
    • Communicating effectively with patrons (in-person, telephone, online);
    • Maintaining an organized and fully stocked public services desk and area;
    • Maintaining a current hold shelf;
    • Assisting with the library inventory;
    • Assisting with stacks maintenance;
    • Preparing materials for shelving;
    • Placing holds on materials;
    • Assisting patrons with basic library, computer, and equipment requests;
    • Maintaining copier/printer needs;
    • Maintaining a high level of library/computer skills through in-service training;
    • Working in a team manner with the library staff;
    • Performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned;
    • Working at least one night per week and on weekends, as scheduled.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    This position requires an ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time and to walk, bend, lift, reach up, stoop, and carry items occasionally in excess of twenty-five (25) pounds. It also requires manual dexterity to operate standard office machines, such as, copier, fax, calculator, telephone, and other equipment as necessary. IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College.
