Responsible for the operation of the Circulation Desk in the daytime hours. Develops and exhibits excellent working knowledge of general Library policies and procedures. Communicates effectively with students, staff, faculty, and other Library patrons. Opens/closes the library as assigned.
In charge of the operation of the Circulation Desk daytime hours. Tuesday through Saturday.
Responsible for circulation of library materials, supervision of student assistants, interpretation and implementation of library circulation policies and procedures. Provision of general information and assistance to patrons in finding library materials, using library resources, and interaction with patrons to resolve problems. Inputs patron data into automated circulation system, performs financial transactions and record keeping activities associated with fines, books bills, and interlibrary loan materials. Follows established guidelines for opening and closing building.
- Hires, trains, supervises, schedules, and evaluates day shift student assistants in all phases of Circulation Desk duties and maintains required records. Responsible for verification and documentation of day shift student timesheets.
- Works as Circulation Supervisor in the absence of the Daytime Supervisor and on evenings and/or weekends as assigned. Responsible for opening/closing the building as assigned.
Processes and maintains traditional reserves.
Responsible for miscellaneous Circulation Desk routines. Lost & Found; First Aid Kit, Gift book donations; date-due supplies; Desk supplies and handouts.
Responsible for recorded telephone messages regarding library hours.
Participates in stacks construction and moving projects.
Performs other duties as assigned. Works other hours/days as assigned.
Tuesday-Thursday; 9:00 am – 5:00 pm; Friday; 11:15 am – 7:15 pm; Saturday; 8:30 am – 7:15 pm. Schedule varies during summer, finals, intersessions, or other special events.
Academic, public, or other library service experience; excellent supervisory skills to hire, train, and supervise student assistants; strong interpersonal skills; ability to perform financial transactions; ability to work well with others; exhibit team skills and flexibility. Successful candidate will have the ability to communicate effectively in order to perform the essential tasks of the position.
A high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. If minimum requirements of the position do not require post high school education, an applicant is not required to provide the information on the application.
