Position DOES NOT require a Master's degree from an ALA accredited program.

Description:

If you want to start your career in a major university library with exceptional programs in digital scholarship and data management, unique and distinctive collections, cutting-edge student services, and much more, the Florida State University Libraries may be the place for you. The FSU Libraries are seeking three early career librarians to participate in a 3-year post-master’s diversity residence program, who will benefit from a rich professional experience along with strong mentorship within the FSU Libraries.  This opportunity is specifically geared toward individuals interested in careers in academic/research libraries.

The purpose of the Florida State University Libraries (FSUL) Diversity Residence Program is to increase the number of qualified academic librarians from diverse backgrounds.  Our purpose aligns with the ACRL Diversity Alliance program of which we are a member. FSU is an Equal Opportunity /Access/ Affirmative Action/Pro Disabled and Veteran Employer committed to creating a diverse and inclusive community that is welcoming to all faculty, staff and students. As such, we strongly encourage applications from candidates who have a demonstrated commitment to fostering and promoting the values of diversity and inclusion.

The residency program strives to meet both the service and operational priorities of the FSU Libraries as well as the professional interests of the Residents, resulting in an exchange of thought to enhance program development, libraries’ practices, and agility in serving today’s diverse student and faculty populations.  The program is designed for Residents to experience multiple facets of academic librarianship, as well as an in-depth assignment in a chosen area of emphasis. Residents will work together as well as with coaches and mentors to design a program that benefits both the Residents and the Libraries.

Early in the program, Residents will become familiar with the aspects of a large academic research library by working in a variety of focus areas, facilitating and completing agreed upon projects and assignments with established goals and objectives. Subsequently the Residents will select a specific focus area for an in-depth work experience and, during the final phase, will be given time to search for a full-time position. The program will culminate in a written report from each resident to the Dean of the Libraries regarding their accomplishments and future recommendations for FSU libraries.

The University Libraries support the FSU mission of providing access to intellectual discovery and community engagement. This Residency initiative is in direct support and commitment to Goal 3 of the university strategic plan:  “Realizing the Full Potential of Diversity and Inclusion.” http://strategicplan.fsu.edu/strategic-goals/goal-3/. FSU’s Equal Opportunity Statement can be viewed at: http://www.hr.fsu.edu/PDF/Publications/diversity/EEO_Statement.pdf

The starting salary for residents is $50,000/year and the positions will be hired in the rank of Assistant University Librarian. Excellent benefits include health plan and paid life insurance; several retirement plans including TIAA-CREF; paid holidays and vacation; no state or local income tax. Benefits afforded to Residents include professional development funding, mentoring, and the opportunity to work on cross-functional teams and faculty committees.  Residents will also be provided with one or more coaches who will assist them as they navigate the program.
