We're looking for a collaborative team leader for our youth services section. We have a creative and enthusiastic staff who enjoy programming.
Our library has always been popular among parents of our youngest patrons and now we are very eager to grow our capacity to better serve children of all ages in our community. We have created a new tween/teen librarian position to further this goal. We're interested in targeting those children who we might not be reaching in our community and in growing some strategic partnerships as we do.
We also will be capacity building across many other service areas: collection development, reader's advisory, reference, use and incorporation of online resources and technology into service delivery, etc.

Definition: Under general supervision, is responsible for administrative, supervisory and direct service functions of the Youth Services section of the library
Tasks: Works alongside section staff to plan, analyze, and evaluate library services of the assigned section. Actively participates in fulfilling library-wide goals and implementing policies. Interprets goals and policies to subordinate staff and to patrons and individuals outside of the library. Works with library administration and section staff to develop and coordinate community partnerships for the assigned service section.
Participates in the selection and training of section staff and and evaluates their performance. Coordinates staff schedule for the assigned section. Monitors ongoing expenditures regarding section (collection, program expenses) and makes budgetary recommendations for section. Monitors maintenance and other section needs and works with Library administration to achieve needed repairs and improvements. Represents the Library at meetings, conferences, presentations and workshops. Resolves conflicts with patrons and the general public. Performs related work as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Other Characteristics:
Knowledge of library principles, methods and best practices
Knowledge of library collections and the information needs of assigned target audiences
Skill in analyzing situations and making appropriate decisions and taking appropriate actions
Skill in coordinating service efforts and personnel assignments to meet a variety of user needs
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Ability to foster effective collaborations within the section and also among colleagues and community partners
Skill in staff supervision and guiding staff in identifying priorities, best practices, etc.
Skill in using technology for enhanced staff efficiency as well as user education and convenience
Qualifications: Requires a Master’s Degree in Library and/or Information Science. Applicants should demonstrate progressive growth and increased responsibility in their work experience, with five years of Masters-level experience in the advertised service area (youth services) and a minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience over a library staff section. Requires a valid Florida driver license.
Physical Requirements: Work involves frequent sitting and standing; moderate walking, reaching, bending, stretching, listening, speaking and movement of objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Work requires regular attendance at the job site.
