Description:

The Lawrence W. Tyree Library is a vibrant, dynamic work environment that supports the college and curriculum with knowledgeable staff, appropriate resources and an environment that promotes user success and life-long learning.  The Lawrence W. Tyree Library was awarded the 2015 ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries award.

The Lawrence W. Tyree Library is seeking a part-time librarian to provide reference services and potentially teach library courses and information literacy sessions.  The reference staff is a collaborative team, working with all library departments as well as throughout the college. The ideal candidate is flexible, enjoys variety in work projects, and is willing to work both on a team and individually.  This position must be able to work evening and weekend schedules, as well as travel to other SF Educational Centers within Alachua and Bradford County.

  • Provide library reference services in-person, by phone, email, and via chat.
  • Assist patrons with and help troubleshoot library and college technologies.
  • Potentially provide library instruction on-site, online, and at other SF Centers.
  • Participate in department meetings and activities as appropriate.
  • Assist with and initiate projects throughout the library.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reports to: Director, Library

Limited to no more than 28 hours per week.


Education:

Required:  Master’s Degree from an American Library Association accredited Library School with experience providing reference services, using a variety of research databases and print resources, as well as experience working in a team environment are required.  Strong technology skills and proficient computer skills using the Microsoft Suite of Office Applications, internet browsers, and basic computer skills are also required. Demonstrated excellence in interpersonal, communication and collaboration skills are required as well as a strong commitment to working with students and faculty in an academic library.  A criminal background check will be conducted.

Preferred:  Academic library experience is preferred as is experience with and the willingness to create online content such as social media postings and resource guides.  Teaching experience is strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:  This position requires a high commitment to customer service and a strong public service orientation.  The successful candidate will have a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.  The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, with the ability to multi-task.  This position must be able to work independently, as well as within a team and possess excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.  The Part-time Librarian Specialist must work well with students, faculty and staff at all levels within a diverse, multi-cultural, collaborative environment.
