Description:

 

Directs administration of the City’s library, parks, facility care, pools, leisure and recreation services, programs, facilities and projects. The Leisure Services Director provides planning for development and enhancement of current programs and services, and budget development and administration. This position oversees daily operations as well as the effective and efficient coordination of all programs, improvement projects and contracts. It provides library and leisure services that meet the information, cultural, and recreational needs of the community.   The Director of Leisure Services provides leadership and direction in the development of short and long-range plans; gathers, interprets and prepares data for studies, reports and recommendations.  This position communicates official plans, policies and procedures to staff and the general public.  The Director of Leisure Services will prepare a variety of studies, reports and related information for decision –making, presentations, evaluations and analysis purposes.  A comprehensive job description will be provided upon request.

 


Education:

 

Knowledge of professional library, facility services, pools, leisure services and parks and recreation practices.  A Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited school or BA degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Leisure Services, Recreation or related field; supplemented by five years managerial municipal parks and recreation experience, to include management and budget development and administration is required; A Certified Leisure Professional (CLP) is preferred. Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP), or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training and/or experience.  Five (5) to seven (7) years of professional managerial experience in the delivery of community based leisure services programs, with demonstrated experience in the administration aspects of the work, e.g., operating and capital budgets development and administration, program design and delivery, public relations, public speaking; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
