Description:

The Warren Library announces the search for someone with excellent customer service skills to fill the open position of Access Services Specialist.  Reporting to the Access Services Librarian, the Access Services Specialist provides excellent customer service, in concert with the Reference Librarians.  The Access Services Specialist is responsible for providing supervisory leadership for the library’s main service desk during assigned hours.

   Some examples include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Train, supervise and evaluate all work-study and other student assistants working within the Access Services department
  • Collaborate and communicate with Access Services Librarian and Reference Librarians to promote excellent patron services
  • Maintain the general functions of the library’s circulation system
  • Manage access to and maintenance of library collections including general stacks, reference, media, reserves, juvenile and periodicals
  • Collect and analyze statistics; prepare reports relating to circulation operations
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of library patrons and resources by communicating and coordinating with other University services, especially Plant Services and University Security
  • Act as liaison with Campus Information Services for end-user technology support
  • Resolve patron issues, responding in person or by correspondence to patron comments or concerns
  • Respond to inquiries from patrons regarding access to library materials, retrieval of interlibrary loans, and other general services
  • Oversee library technology workstations(computers, media workstations, etc.) and assist patrons in their use

Education:

This position requires an undergraduate degree and demonstrated experience in providing excellent customer service in a business enterprise or nonprofit organization.  The successful candidate must have the communications skills and service orientation required to be effective in a demanding front-line service environment.  Qualified candidates must also demonstrate strong Christian commitment as evidenced by local church involvement and the ability to integrate faith with day-to-day job performance.
