The Fort Myers Beach Library seeks an energetic self-starter who looks forward to being part of a small community.  We are a one-site library and staff work as a team sharing multiple tasks and duties. Practically this means covering Reference/Information/Internet workstation access area one day a week. We desire an imaginative professional who has demonstrated ability to manage technical projects with commitment to customer service and collaborative approaches.

 

Schedule:  40 hours per week; some Saturdays may need your coverage.  Although full-time coverage is desirable, we are open to a half-time position if family needs dictate.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.    Coordinates technology services, including maintenance and technical support for the workstation hardware, software, and associated peripherals in the public library and in staff areas; Web-based delivery of content. Run and maintain servers, including email services; maintain and do needed maintenance and updating of network, including wireless access.

2.    Provides training and information to facilitate optimal and continual use of electronic resources among library staff and patrons, including regular formal presentations with the public; also manage Federal e-rate program.

3.    Maintains ongoing awareness and familiarity with technological advances; collaborates with the Library Director to recommend and implement changes and improvements to the library’s electronic resources, including customizing library databases.

4.    Participates in planning, and policy formation relating to technology services, collections and new technologies; design and utilize statistical and management reports; updates homepage in a timely manner; develops social media pages.

5.    Includes reference services on rotating weekend hours and collection development collaboration.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

1. Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent. A candidate with a bachelor's degree in computer science with a proven, effective library work history may be considered in lieu of the MA.

2. Strong public services approach and outlook.

3. Working knowledge of editing and management tools, Microsoft Office products, HTML editing experience. Ability to write and understand programming language--JavaScript, Perl, php.

4. Effective interpersonal, communication, presentation and organizational skills, including

• Ability to provide instruction in a computer/help desk environment

• Ability to provide assistance to staff with computer-related problems and explain solutions and techniques to them in a clear manner

• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships in a team environment to meet the program and service needs of customers and staff.

4. Relevant supervisory experience, or experience with project management.

5. Good working knowledge of PC hardware, Windows-based applications and knowledge of Content Management Systems (CMS) like Drupal and Linux Operation System., and the uses and configuration of public workstations in libraries; awareness of security solutions for public workstations and technology trends in libraries.  Understanding of APIs and how to integrate them into the library's websites.

6. Ability to work independently and provide inspiration to staff regarding technology growth; working knowledge or thin clients and Virtual Machines--running many servers on one box.

7. Flexibility; ability to shift priorities and cope with ambiguity and change.

 

Preferred:

1. Second degree in a humanities or social sciences discipline.

2. Previous library experience, preferably in public service.

3. A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science.
