The Digital Services Specialist supports the Olin library with development, configuration, and maintenance of the library web presence, digital displays, social media, public desktops, and participates in trouble shooting online services.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Designing and maintaining the library's web presence, including maintaining and updating webpages, and assisting in the customization of the look and feel of patron-facing web services such as Primo, ArchivesSpace, ContentDM, RSO, and LibGuides
  • Administering the library's LibGuide account and pages. Assisting in the administration of the library's client scheduling software and chat services
  • Conducting usability testing and focus groups as needed to evaluate website
  • Collecting and analyzing website and other usage statistics
  • Collecting and assembling statistical data for inclusion in periodic reports
  • Performing regular maintenance and troubleshooting on library's public computers and printers/copiers
  • Developing and maintaining digital products for the library, including digital and video photography, and content for the plasma and touchscreen
  • Collaborating with a team to continuously develop the library's social media presence outside of the library website
  • Acting as a consultant for other library units on web and social media issues, serving on technology-focused committees as assigned
  • In conjunction with members of the Information Technology staff, collaborating with other faculty and staff in developing and adopting new technologies and the purchase of software and hardware for office use
  • Assisting librarians and other visitors in using presentation equipment and software in the library
  • Engaging in training and professional development appropriate to library goals and objectives
  • Performing related duties as assigned

  • Web authoring skills, including HTML, WordPress, and CSS (with some Javascript preferred)
  • Knowledge and/or experience with responsive web design
  • Knowledge of internet protocol and web architecture
  • Possess advanced technical computer skills, including experience with Remote Desktop Protocol, VPN, and FTP.
  • Proficiency with mobile devices and other emerging technologies
  • Proficiency with web analytics and SEO
  • Proficiency with a Windows environment, MS Office, web authoring software, image editing software, the Adobe Suite, and web browsers
  • Proficiency with the maintenance of organizational social media presence
  • Ability to work accurately and independently with strong attention to detail
  • Ability to assist diverse users with a wide range of technical ability
  • Ability to strategically plan and manage multiple projects and assignments and meet deadlines
  • Ability to instruct colleagues and patrons in the use of library technology
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Information Technology and Marketing and Communications
  • One year of job related experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of basic library operations and library automation applications is preferred
  • Proficiency with WebHD or other technical support ticketing systems preferred
