 PRIMARY CUSTOMERS, PARTNERS, AND TEAM:    

 At Adventist University of Health Sciences (ADU), our primary customers are students, faculty, and staff.  Our partners are physicians, allied health clinicians and other employees of Florida Hospital.

 

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

 

The Head of Liaison and Instructional Services oversees all aspects of developing and implementing effective liaison and instructional resources and services to support the teaching, research, and mission of the University. 

The Head of Liaison and Instructional Services is an energetic, self-directed, user-oriented health sciences librarian who possesses the expertise, leadership, organization, communication, administration, and management skills to lead in the creation, delivery, and on-going assessment of library liaison and instructional services.  


The Head of Liaison and Instructional Services actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all. 

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Demonstrates behaviors at Adventist University of Health Sciences in harmony with the “Four Words” Nurture, Excellence, Spirituality, and Stewardship 

 

  • Successfully develop and oversee library liaison and instructional services, assuring high quality resources and services in all aspects of library instruction, information literacy, and liaison work.  Establish policies, procedures, goals, and objectives within a team environment.  Oversee work assignments and special projects for the liaison and instructional teams.

 

  • Annually plan liaison and instructional budget and develop reports, projections, and needs assessments that are used as a part of the annual library strategic planning process. 

 

  • Develop and implement 5-year strategic plan for instructional and liaison services, with updates performed annually and as needed.

 

  • Prepare reports and statistical data regarding instructional and liaison services, as needed.  

 

  • Chair library ongoing liaison and instructional team meetings, and actively participate on ADU committees as assigned. 

 

  • Mentor/train library faculty in skills needed to perform liaison and instructional job duties.

 

  • Perform library reference services as assigned, including in-person reference, chat, phone, e-mail, or online screen-sharing reference. 

 

  • Active participation in library professional organizations, including professional service.

 

  • Active participation in ongoing continuing education, including credentialing in the Association of Health Sciences Professionals (AHIP).

 

  • Ongoing engagement in scholarship and research activities, including writing for publication.

 

  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Education:

 KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

 

  • Understands current issues and trends, as well as best practices, in academic health sciences library liaison and instructional services, including the use of cutting-edge technologies for those services.

 

  • Excellent instructional knowledge and teaching skills with individuals and groups.  Able to teach advanced health sciences research skills, including skills needed for writing for publication.

 

  • Able to develop and implement a comprehensive library liaison and instructional services 5-year plan that includes goals, objectives, and plans for implementation and on-going assessment.  

 

  • Able to select, negotiate license agreements, and purchase new technologies related to instruction, information literacy and liaison work. Trains users in using new technologies.

 

  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and set priorities. 

 

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, planning, project management and decision-making skills.

 

  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills. 

 

  • Strong level of creativity and problem-solving skills.

 

  • Highly flexible. Embraces change and is comfortable initiating new practices or services.

 

  • Works effectively in a team environment. 

 

  • Proficient in the use of medical terminology.

 

  • Model professional Christian values and is willing to participate in workplace spiritual activities.

 

 

  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

  • American Library Association-recognized Master’s degree in library and information science.
  • Five years of progressively responsible professional library experience in the areas of liaison and instructional services. 
  • Two years of supervisory experience in a liaison or instructional services academic library setting.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

 

  • 5 years of experience as head of liaison or instructional services in a health sciences academic library setting.
  • Possess Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP) credentialing.
