This is responsible professional library work in the design, coordination and planning of reference service, book selection and cataloging. The work involves the provision of reference service, adult and juvenile, book selection and cataloging. Considerable independent judgment and initiative are required. Supervision is provided by the Library Director.
Plans reference service including acquisitions and Branch staff reference training. Performs the cataloging of library materials, using Library Corporation file Cataloging System software. Assists in library public relations activities. Catalogs and downloads material/information using Library Solution integrated library system. Assists in planning and grant writing process for LSTA, State Aide, and other grant opportunities. Coordinate adult and multi-age programs. Prepare library displays. Work circulation desk as needed. Assist with E-Rate and filing preparation. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of the principles, practices and methods of library science including reference, cataloging, and material selection. Ability to plan and organize library programs and classes, perform professional duties, direct personnel and volunteers, and to work effectively with other departments, agencies, and the public. Experience using automated library systems including computerized cataloging preferred. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Possession of a Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Library Science or similar field is required. One year of professional library experience is a must. Grant writing and adult programming experience is preferred. Possession a valid State of Florida Driver's License with a favorable. Must be able to work one (1) night a week and one (1) Saturday per month. May be required to lift 5-10 pounds occasionally.
